I love stats and formulas and numbers. I was bored at work and ended up perusing the Pern "Discussion" forum. I came upon a post questioning the "fact" that Seniors tend to be the ones who have the gold offspring in a Weyr. So I took the stats that I keep for the NC charts pages and sorted them to see just if this charge had merit. It does indicate that the majority of gold offspring in a Weyr are clutched from the Senior queen. However, until the past three years or so, not many Weyrs had more than one active Junior. A couple had Retired Seniors still around, but likely not all that willing to do another clutch. Additionally, some Juniors have never taken the Senior position, while Juniors behind them have. Whether this is due to the Weyrwoman's decision or their own, you would have to ask them :) I am fairly sure that at Benden the newest Junior usually ended up as Senior rather quickly, though I could be remembering wrong. I know Jehrina said that Merla pretty much handed things over to her once she graduated. Asfala Impressed Dyinath in Leilanth's first clutch and was inactive by the time I started there as a Candidate in 1996, so... The tables are sorted by the date the Gold Offspring Hatched. Rialeth and Isadith each had two runs as Sr WW, denoted with a '2' next to the names. I am pretty sure I have all the info right, but if I don't, well, let me know and I'll fix it.
